About Minnie + Ree - we love cotton and linen clothes!
Cotton and linen because natural fabrics are cool!
Minnie + Ree clothing is famously flexi-sized and adaptable. We make a lot of our clothing from cotton and linen because they are beautiful fabrics to wear and they breathe. All M+R designs are created to be in a woman’s wardrobe for some years. They are cut from high quality fabrics, sewn by NZ home-based seamstresses who love their work, and will continue to fit despite changes in body weight and shape.
We do have a love for colour and print and spend a lot of time choosing the right cottons and linens. All M+R clothing is made to be stylish, comfortable and durable. No fast fashion for us thank you – buy it, love it, keep it as long as you can. We want our clothing to last and we often see people wearing our designs from several years ago. And they still look good.
Ree is a self-taught designer who loves clothes and loves solving problems. She makes every M+R design to be as effortless and flattering as possible. The flexible sizes are created so no M+R clothing will ever languish in the skinny/fat clothes section of the wardrobe. She wants your clothes to make you feel good!
Her first products began life in 2006 and became Sonsie Swimwear, swimwear for women with a bigger bust. Somehow over the last ten years this has grown into a much wider range and today Minnie + Ree make skirts, dresses, tops, pants, merino scarves …
Ree works mainly from her studio on the Kapiti Coast, north of Wellington, New Zealand but can often be found (in the winter) seeking inspiration and sunshine in Queensland, Australia.
Minnie comes from the name of the company: Minnie Faux Ltd. Minnie Faux was Ree's great-grandmother who had a really cool name. Ree's surname is Smith and she has serious name-envy. Ree happily answers to "Minnie" and delights in being called Ms Faux.
